The University Bachelor of Technology (B.U.T) CS VTD pathway provides training for careers in territorial development. Territorial development encompasses all the activities involved in managing, developing and offering services for :
- to enhance and develop both rural and urban areas (as an infrastructure, a site, a neighborhood, a commune, an intercommunality, a canton, a department, a region, etc.).
- make it even more attractive,
- develop social cohesion and social ties in local areas,
- to meet the needs and expectations of their users, particularly in terms of social and/or professional support for specific target groups.
In this context, territorial development involves designing and managing specific projects linked to regional transformation and development policies, and participating in their implementation.
Skills
Graduates of the University Bachelor of Technology (B.U.T) Carrières sociales, Villes et Territoires Durables (Sustainable Cities and Territories) program are involved in territorial policies. To fulfill their missions, they need to understand the environment in all its cultural and human, economic and social, political and spatial dimensions. They are characterized by their ability to read and analyze territories across the board, based on their practical experience in the field and on the action and technological skills they deploy in the fields of economics, political science, urban planning, management and communication. In the face of new inequalities, it performs functions in the fields of territorial studies and development, public and social economics, services and mediation, to improve the living environment of local residents. With quality of life at the heart of their concerns, they integrate ecological and environmental constraints into their actions, and participate in the implementation of public policies and related measures. As a local player, it is in a position to support current changes, issues or emerging urban situations - mobility, interculturality, cities in transition, territorial resilience... - by drawing on international insights. Graduates of University Bachelor of Technology (B.U.T) Carrières sociales, urban management option, coordinate projects involving a range of local players (local authorities, landlords, associations, etc.) on issues as diverse as urban renewal, access to housing, cultural development, economic revitalization, development of public spaces, mobility, prevention... They combine the practice of social intervention and support with local urban management and the administrative and technical monitoring of urban projects. They are employed by local authorities, administrations, associations, private companies, consultancies, etc.

Students follow a three-year post-baccalaureate curriculum comprising a range of courses enabling them to acquire the following skills: designing interventions adapted to the challenges facing society, building partnership dynamics, carrying out territorial diagnoses, communicating with the public and local players, managing projects for territories in transition.

General or technological baccalaureate, interest in the humanities and social sciences, curiosity and open-mindedness.
Sufficient level of general knowledge (economic and social sciences, political science, etc.) and ability to write, analyze and summarize (French, philosophy, history and geography, etc.).

Further studies
Short-term further studies: after the first 2 years of the University Bachelor of Technology (B.U.T) CS VTD program, students can enroll in a Professional Degree program, particularly in social intervention (social development, mediation, support for specific target groups, etc.), or even in the 3rd year of another University Bachelor of Technology (B.U.T) CS program (subject to validation of prior learning by the recruitment committee).
Long-term studies: master's degree in geography, urban planning, regional planning (taught in urban planning schools or institutes, in UFRs, etc.) or even sociology.
