Presentation

Summary of job specifications and acquired skills

The practice of physiotherapy involves health promotion, prevention, physiotherapy diagnosis and treatment of movement or motor disorders, deficiencies or alterations in functional capacities. The masseur-physiotherapist exercises his or her activity independently and with full responsibility, in accordance with the code of ethics mentioned in article L.4321-21 of the French Public Health Code. Masso-kinésithérapie consists of manual or instrumental procedures, particularly for re-education purposes, with the aim University Bachelor of Technology (B.U.T) of preventing impairment of functional capacities, helping to maintain them and, when they are impaired, restoring or compensating for them. These procedures are likely to evolve in line with developments in knowledge and scientific evidence.

The masseur-physiotherapist communicates to the physician any information in his or her possession that may be useful in establishing a medical diagnosis or adapting treatment according to the patient's state of health and its evolution.

As part of the medical prescription, he draws up an assessment which includes a physiotherapy diagnosis and the objectives of care, as well as the choice of the most appropriate procedures and techniques. This assessment is made available to the prescribing physician.

In the event of an emergency, and in the absence of a doctor, the masseur-physiotherapist is authorized to perform the first necessary acts of physiotherapy. A report of the acts performed under these conditions is given to the doctor as soon as he or she intervenes.
