Presentation
The creation of the DU "Droit, Religion, Société" (Law, Religion, Society) is a civil and civic training project that responds to a national context marked by the development of new religious practices, both in Christianity (the phenomenon of evangelical Christians) and in Islam. Certainly, the current security situation, marked by attacks perpetrated in the name of religion and heightened tensions between communities, is also a factor in the need to re-examine the relationship between religion and the Republic's political, administrative and social institutions.
The development of these new religious practices means that the links between religion, society and public authorities need to be revisited through the prism of the law: believers and religious leaders need to be familiar with the legal rules governing worship and the relationship between religion and social, administrative and political institutions, so that religious practices can be carried out within a legal framework; public authorities want to create new spaces for dialogue between the public concerned and between themselves and believers and religious leaders, by training them in common legal frames of reference. The private sector, which is also affected by this reinvigorated religious phenomenon, is no exception to this need for legal clarification, with a view to reconciling religious freedom with the operating principles of the social body. Before focusing on legal fundamentals, we need to identify the believers and cults in question, using sociology.
