The Diplôme universitaire d'études françaises A1 is a first approach to French. It teaches the basic linguistic tools and language skills that will enable students to enter into very simple oral interactions, understand written information from everyday life, and be able to give, in writing, some information about themselves and their daily lives.

Competency-based learning objectives
- Listening comprehension: Understand words or very short documents on familiar everyday topics. Understand simple, clear announcements and messages.
- Reading comprehension: Understand familiar words and simple sentences (announcements, advertisements, posters, leaflets). Find practical information in everyday documents (menus, timetables, catalogs, maps). Understand very short, simple personal letters.
- Oral expression: Use simple words and expressions to introduce yourself and describe your surroundings. Ask simple questions on familiar topics and answer similar questions. Communicate simply with help and rephrasing.
- Written expression: Fill in an information sheet or form. Write a postcard. Write a short letter to invite, thank, apologize or inform.

Program
The hourly volume is 216 hours (18 hours/week).

Admission
Admission requirements
The minimum level required is a baccalaureate or secondary school leaving certificate. All fields of training are accepted.
In French, students must be able to prove that they are at least at A1 level when they apply. There is no absolute beginner's level.
