At the end of their studies, graduates of the Licence de Lettres will have an excellent general knowledge of literature. In both French and foreign literature, they will be familiar with the major works, and their place in a given period and literary genre. They will be familiar with the major developments in literary criticism. With a view to broadening their knowledge, they will also be trained in the study of the visual arts, and be familiar with the history of ideas and major artistic trends. More technical courses from the third year onwards, as well as a compulsory internship, will facilitate the student's integration into professional life.

In addition to the discipline of literature, he or she will have received excellent training in the French language, with a precise knowledge of its history. With solid writing skills, he or she will have mastered the tools of argumentation and be able to present an oral performance within the constraints imposed.

He or she will be able to carry out documentary research and build a bibliography; he or she will be able to use computers and master a modern language.

Program

The Bachelor of Arts degree is organized over 3 years (6 semesters-180 European credits). The introduction of portals in the 1st year enables students to progressively specialize. In the third year, students can choose from a range of courses, leading to a number of Masters degrees (Bac + 5).

In the 1st semester, the portals enable students to choose a combination of 2 majors leading to 2 bachelor's degrees. The Licence de Lettres is accessible from the Lettres-Histoire, Lettres-Sciences du Langage and Lettres-LLCER (Foreign and Regional Languages, Literatures and Civilizations, with a choice between English and Spanish) portals.

In the second semester, you will choose a major and a minor from the two disciplines in your portal, and your final choice of degree will be made when you register for your 2nd year. By continuing your studies in one of the two disciplines from your first year, you will retain the benefit of the credits obtained.

The 1st year's Humanities courses provide a foundation in the methodology of academic work, while beginning with fundamental courses on the eras of literary history, as well as literature in different historical and cultural contexts. In 2nd year, teaching focuses on French and comparative literature, possibly in context, broadening the range of approaches and specific skills, and beginning professional orientation with a dedicated course and a first internship. In 3rd year, this orientation will be deepened by the choice of a pathway, alongside the literature courses of the core curriculum, aimed more specifically at the pursuit of studies leading to the teaching profession in schools or the humanities, or to other literary professions in publishing, libraries, documentation, digital humanities, communication, etc.
