"training expectations

Candidates for the Sciences et Techniques des Activités Physiques et Sportives degree are expected to

  • Scientific skills

STAPS studies include multi-disciplinary scientific teaching (life sciences, humanities and social sciences). Students need to be able to assimilate this content and build a line of reasoning based on scientific concepts.

  • Mobilize written expression skills to develop reasoned arguments

STAPS studies frequently require students to write summary papers or dissertations and give oral presentations. What's more, many students go on to take part in competitive examinations, where writing skills are essential. They need to be able to argue, reason and synthesize information.

  • Sporting skills

STAPS studies include a significant amount of sports practice. As a prerequisite, therefore, it seems necessary to have regular and varied experience in physical and sporting activities.

  • Demonstrate an interest in exercising collective, associative or civic responsibility

The professional field for which STAPS studies prepare students is mainly that of teaching, education, training, personal support or rehabilitation, in which the practitioner is responsible for the safety of the public entrusted to him/her, and for the ethics and values he/she transmits, as well as for the management of private or public structures directly linked to sport. Previous experience in leadership, supervision, collective, associative or civic responsibilities is therefore an asset.

  • Have the working methods and autonomy needed to succeed in university studies in STAPS

These expectations describe the skills required to succeed in the STAPS Bachelor's degree program. They are not ranked in order of importance. As there are many ways to succeed in STAPS, a weakly developed skill may be compensated for by others.
