Presentation
The Master's degree in Geography, Planning, Environment and Development (GAED) is divided into two complementary courses that cover a broad educational spectrum of geography, adapted to the needs of the Centre-Val de Loire region, France and neighboring countries:
1. Water and Territories
2. Local sustainable development
The course is also open to the international arena, covering issues of development, international solidarity and emerging countries.
Water and Territory :
The Department of Geography at the University of Orléans offers a course in environmental geography dedicated to the study of the challenges of territorial water management in a context of global change (socio-environmental, climatic...). One of the special features of this program is its strong focus on limnology, with both theoretical and applied courses.
The course is structured around fundamental and applied courses that combine environmental and social approaches to water territories, with the aim of University Bachelor of Technology (B.U.T) understanding their diversity and the contemporary issues that affect them. Geomatics skills complete the students' training.
Individual and group work placements (internships, tutored projects, etc.) encourage active teaching and enable students to put into practice the methodological and technical skills acquired during their training. For students wishing to pursue a doctorate, the course also offers an opening onto research into water-related issues.
Geographers specializing in these issues (lakes, ponds, wetlands, river corridors) join forces with leading organizations to develop effective, comprehensive teaching programs. Field trips and group projects provide students with the opportunity to work in a professional environment.
Its main objective is to train senior managers as environmental geographers, with sound knowledge of water-related territorial management issues (environmental management, water resource management, basin management, hydrological risks, regulations, etc.) and real skills in the administration, management and analysis of geographic and environmental data, cartography (remote sensing) and Geographic Information Systems.
The Water and Territories Master's program of the GAED Master's program has been awarded the "GPEX" (Graduate Program of Excellence) label as part of the MINERVE (France 2030) project. As such, selected students in the Master's class could benefit from funding in M1 and M2 (e.g. excellence scholarship, subsidized internship).
